Former beloved Duke standout and NBA player Gene Banks was recently hired as Athletic Director at Gaston College. He has been tapped to resurrect the sports program at the college after its 50-year hiatus. In addition to his position as athletic director, Banks will work with the school’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
The NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) recently added Gene as a regional Equity, Diversity & Inclusion ambassador. According to a NJCAA representative: “Ambassadors will develop a working framework to form the inaugural Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Region Committees and lead their respective regions in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives. Region Ambassadors will set the foundation for Region Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committees to make an impact on the regional and national level while placing an intentional focus on educating, empowering, and engaging NJCAA student-athletes, coaches, athletic directors, and administrators.”
Well done, Gaston College and well done, Gene!
